WRITE WAI PR and Copywriting Services and Tutor Doctor Colchester North are pleased and proud to announce the winners of our 2014 Journalism Competition run in conjunction with the Colchester Gazette.
The First place goes to 14-year-old Erin Smith of Thurstable School. Erin will receive a Kindle HD, a tour of the Gazette’s newsroom and the publication of her story in the newspaper. Thurstable School will receive a £100 Amazon voucher.
Second place goes to 13-year-old Bethany Hollis who attends the Colne Community School. Bethany will receive a £50.00 Amazon voucher, a tour of the Gazette newsroom and her story published on a subsequent night.
Third place was won by William Cox, a Year 8 student from The Colchester High School. William will receive a £25.00 Amazon Voucher, a tour of the Gazette newsroom and his story published in the paper as well.
In the tradition of a ‘scoop’ once the stories have been published we will reproduce them on our websites for everyone to read along with our judge’s comments and photographs of the winners.
The level and quality of entries was exceeded our collective expectations but we felt that these three pieces showed exceptional connection to their chosen subject, were well researched and written from a very individual and novel perspective.
Many thanks to all those who took the time to enter – you all showed a real passion for journalism. The goal of this competition was once again to reward creativity but help anyone wishing to go into journalism as a career. Through this competition we hope in some small part we have encouraged some to think about journalism as an occupation and a future career.
I know Erin, Bethany and William did just that.
